Electrical work in Broadmeadow and Hamilton North

Broadmeadow is post-war brick and tile between the racecourse and the rail line, with unit blocks near the interchange and trade units along the industrial end. Most of the wiring problems here come down to age.

Bathroom light dead, switch to blame too

At a Broadmeadow home the round fluorescent globe had failed and so had the switch that controlled it. It was not a common globe, so we went and got one to suit, fitted a new switch and left the light working.

Light fittings failing one at a time

In two Broadmeadow units we replaced failed oyster fittings with LED oysters and tested the circuit. Older homes and garages around here are still full of fluorescent battens and starters, and an LED batten drops straight into the same spot.

Fuse boards from another era

At one Broadmeadow unit we replaced two failed lights and told the owner the board itself, still on fuses, was the next job. Brick and tile homes of this vintage often have ceramic fuses, or plain breakers with no safety switch behind them. We upgrade the board, label it properly and leave you the paperwork.

Units, workshops and the things nobody tests

Three small things, one visit

At a Broadmeadow unit we replaced a broken light switch, moved the TV cable up the wall out of the way, and quoted the kitchen exhaust fan rather than guess at it. At another we picked up keys from the agent, fitted a new LED oyster and refixed a loose power point back to the kitchen splashback.

Workshops and trade units

Broadmeadow and Hamilton North are full of small workshops. If you run one, we can test and tag the leads and tools, sort out three phase outlets and lighting over the benches, and come back on a set schedule so it is never a scramble.

Exit signs nobody has tested

Trade units, unit blocks and small offices all carry exit signs and emergency lights, and they only prove themselves when the power drops out. We test every fitting, replace the ones that fail and leave you the written record.

Safety switches on the circuits that matter

A safety switch (RCD) cuts the power in a fraction of a second when something goes wrong. If your board only protects the power points, we can extend that cover to the lights, the stove and the hot water.

Broadmeadow questions

My bathroom light has stopped working, is it the globe or the switch?

It can be both. At a Broadmeadow home the circular fluorescent globe and the switch that controlled it had each failed, so we replaced the pair and tested the circuit.

Can old fluorescent lights be replaced with LED?

Yes. An LED batten or panel goes straight where the old fluorescent fitting was, with no starter, no flicker and no chasing an odd size globe.

Do you test and tag equipment for workshops and small businesses?

Yes. We test and tag leads, tools and portable equipment, label each item and give you the register, so the paperwork is ready when someone asks for it.

How do I know if my house has safety switches?

A safety switch has a test button on the front of it. If your board has ceramic fuses, or breakers with no test button, there is no safety switch and we can quote the upgrade.

Do you test exit signs and emergency lights for a small business?

Yes. We test each fitting, replace the ones that fail and hand you the written record, so it is ready the next time your insurer or your landlord asks for it.
