We already do this work every week

One hundred jobs for the NSW public school estate between July 2024 and September 2026. Not a capability we are claiming. Work we have been doing across the Hunter for more than two years, mostly in small jobs, averaging a few hundred dollars each.

What those hundred jobs actually were, counted off our own job sheets:

  • Lighting, 50 jobs. Half of everything. Twenty-eight of them fluorescent tubes and failed fittings
  • Power points, 22 jobs. Dead outlets, points pulled off the wall, points that have shorted
  • Circuits tripping, 14 jobs. Including a kiln in an art room that tripped the moment it was switched on
  • Fans, 13 jobs. Classroom fans not turning, running slow, or buzzing
  • Data and internet outlets, 13 jobs. Patched at the rack and still dead at the wall
  • Canteen and commercial kitchen, 10 jobs

What schools actually ring us about

These are the faults that come up again and again, in the words they arrive in:

Electrician working on a ceiling fitting

Lights out across a block

Tubes flickering in two blocks at once, or a hall with the whole inside row dead. It is the single most common thing we are called for.

LED upgrades >
Barrack Electrical electrician wiring a new LED batten light before fitting it

A power point that has come off the wall

Common in classrooms and canteens, and a safety issue the moment it happens. Usually a same-visit fix.

Power points >
Electrician working inside a switchboard

A circuit that keeps tripping

An art room kiln, a canteen appliance, or a block that drops out with no obvious cause. We test until we find it rather than resetting it and leaving.

Fault finding >
Electrician at work on a fitting

A WHS note with a date on it

A broken switch or a buzzing fan gets written up as a hazard, and then it needs closing out. Tell us it is a WHS item and we treat it that way.

Want this sorted?

Tell us what is going on. We ring you back, usually the same day.

How we work on a school site

Around the school day, not through it

Most of it happens in term time with students on site. We work in with the office on when a room is actually free, and anything noisy or disruptive gets booked for a break or after hours. Everyone we send holds a Working With Children Check and signs in at the office.

A Barrack Electrical electrician walking back to the work van

Reported back against the room it came from

Work comes to us as a room code and a fault. It goes back the same way: which room, what we found, what we did, and what is still outstanding. The person closing the work order should not have to ring and ask.

Electrician recording details on site

Tubes today, or LED and stop repeating it

Replacing tubes keeps a room working. Converting the block to LED stops the call-outs coming back and cuts what the lighting costs to run. We will tell you which one the block in front of us needs, and price it a block at a time rather than as one site-wide number.

Canteens, kitchens and the gear in them

A canteen is a commercial kitchen with a tight schedule. Dead points, a grill that will not come on, hand dryers out in the toilets, an under-sink hot water unit that has stopped heating. We take those as urgent because a canteen cannot close for a week.

A Barrack Electrical electrician kneeling to measure up before starting work

Compliance that is scheduled, not remembered

Emergency and exit light testing, safety switch testing and test and tag, run to a schedule we agree with you and recorded so the results exist when somebody asks for them.

Test and tag >
Electrician checking a fitting

Preschools, OOSH and other education sites

The same work turns up in preschools, before and after school care rooms and school halls, and we cover those on the same sites. If you look after more than one building, tell us and we will work out the order with you rather than doing whichever was rung in last.

Outside the school estate we do the same job for other organisations with multiple sites and work orders to close. Commercial maintenance >

School electrical questions

Do you work in schools during term?

Yes. Most of what we do is during term, around classes. We work in with the office on when a room is free, and the noisy or disruptive parts get booked for a break or after hours.

Can you take work orders with room numbers?

Yes. Most of the work we get for schools arrives that way, as a room code and a fault. We report back the same way, so the person closing the work order can see which room was done and what was found.

Do your electricians have a Working With Children Check?

Yes. Anyone we send to a school holds a current Working With Children Check, and we sign in at the office like any other contractor.

The fluorescent tubes keep failing. Is it worth converting to LED?

Usually. Half the school work we do is lighting, and most of that is tubes and failed fittings. Converting a block to LED cuts the repeat call-outs and the power bill. We can price a block at a time rather than the whole site at once.

Can you look after the canteen and the kitchen?

Yes. Canteen and commercial kitchen work is a regular part of it, from a dead power point to an appliance that keeps tripping the circuit.

Do you do emergency and exit light testing?

Yes, on a schedule we agree with you, with the results recorded so the paperwork is there when it is asked for.

What about data points and internet outlets?

We do those too. A classroom outlet that is patched but dead is a common one, and it is a different fault from a dead power point.

How quickly can you get to a school?

We aim for the same day. A classroom nobody can use is urgent, so tell us when you ring that it is a room out of action.

Need an electrician at your school?

Tell us the site and what is out of action. We will ring you back, usually the same day.
